Before a domain name can be transferred from one registrar to another the permission of the registrant must be obtained. This normally happens by email and is authenticated by the email address. But contact information can be old or inaccurate leading to errors. This means that there may be situations where a transfer may be approved by an unauthorized person. As transfer communications are invariably by email, things can go wrong if the authorized person does not receive the email.
